Saging and Banaw (Ginamos) : Perfect Snack Combinations in the Visayas of the Philippines

Saging. Banaw to the Waray-warays. Ginamos to the Bisayas. These are two perfect snack combinations we'd love to pig out in the afternoon for all walks of life. No matter which level in the society you're in, if you're a Waray-waray or Bisaya, you sure would love these.

Banaw or Ginamos are these small salted fishes preserved in salt with garlic and onions for at least a week. There are different types but my favorite is the "Sinabado". The difference among the others? Well, it suits my taste. Next time, I'm gonna feature the different types of preserved salted fishes.

Saging or the native unripe banana is one of the staple food not just in my hometown - Palo or the whole of Leyte or Visayas but even the world. I can live a day just eating boiled bananas! And I would even eat ripe bananas for breakfast! They grow perfectly in tropical regions like ours. In fact in the Philippines, they grow everywhere except for the Cities of course (laughs!).

The salted fish plus the boiled native unripe bananas - super yummy! I might think of drinking Coke after that but even water will do.

There are just so many more to explore. So many more to taste around. But slowly, I will be able to take you there!
