Journey: Expectations - Beauty Under Pressure

April 1, 2013 at 11:50pm

Expectations. We can't help but let them slap us on the face sometimes. Supposedly, they are there to guide us, to let us know what we are trying to prove, what we really want to happen. But there are all sorts of expectations buzzing around. They can be healthy, they can be toxic. It all depends upon whose mouth the expecatations came from. Better widen your horizons.. Look at the other sides of things...

I remember when I was still a student... During first day of classes, subject teachers would usually ask you to write down or recite in front of the class what are your expectations about the subject and the teacher as well...
A view in Mt. Apo itself.

Why? I would usually ask myself and even my classmates would wonder why there would always be such. (after the 'recitation fright?!') LOL

Sometimes, at the end of every school year, only about 20% of those expectations are fulfilled. Why?
I could not understand this until I became a teacher myself.

Well, it is clear enough what we want to happen when we are in school. We have to be an ey-okay student if we can't be the best while teachers just have to be effective. Just like bosses and employees! There would be too much pressure I know. Yeah right. Too much dramas. But that is part of the journey.

What are other types of expectations? Well, that of people's 'thoughts of you'. They can't help but expect from you. It may either be good or bad. Well, "EXPECT" that too. We would hate it sometimes. Some would have standards. Do this, do that... Some would expect you to fail. She can't make it... She will fail... Stuff like that. But anyway, I don't want to sound negative... But to be honest it is just beauty under pressure. Maybe easy to say but hard to literally handle.

We can't help but disappoint and get disappointed. Again, it is part of the journey. How to handle? Think about why you are in that situation. Chill out. Talk to friends - healthy ones if you know what I mean. Talk to people who will not stress you out. I usually do that. Relax. And most importantly, pray. These situations? Well, they are during Expectations When Beauty Is Under Pressure.

Expectations can sometimes be useless in as much as others may think that New Year's Resolutions are. But I guess all these depend upon how you internalize all these things... If you took them seriously... If you made good of a deal out of these supposed guides.

Expectations are meant to be guides. But your own expectations will do. Never pressure yourself with what others want you to become. Think of what you want to do with your life... your dreams.. your ambitions. What will make you happy... and just make it happen when you can while you have the faith in Daddy God.
